Wisdom Teeth Extraction
Wisdom teeth, those third molars in the very back of the mouth, may have been necessary at some point in human history, but for most, there is a lack of room in the jawbone. Arriving during our late teens or early twenties, these teeth tend to disturb the teeth around them and cause problems as they push or try to push through.
Wisdom teeth, either fully emerged or partially, can become a breeding ground for plague and food particles which just leads to gum disease. As a result, it’s usually best to remove them.
If a tooth has only come in partially, your dentist will need to make an incision in the gums and teeth and sometimes the bone, to remove it properly. If it’s fully emerged, it can be removed like any other tooth.
